Designed by Naval Architect Gösta Kyntzell, Katrina was built at Wilenius boatyard in Porvoo, Finland in 1939. Shipowner Curt Mattson originally ordered the 8mR boat for the 1940 Helsinki Olympics, which were, however, cancelled due to the 2nd World War.
